Project Overview

Spark Roofing & Guttering was engaged to deliver a premium roofing solution for a contemporary beachfront residence overlooking Bar Beach, one of Newcastle’s most exposed coastal locations. The design brief required a sleek, minimalist flat roof aesthetic that could also withstand high wind exposure, salt air corrosion, and intense UV conditions—all typical of this marine environment.

Our Solution

Given the site’s proximity to the ocean, we recommended and installed COLORBOND® Ultra steel in a Matt finish—specifically engineered for severe coastal zones within 200m of breaking surf. The flat roof design featured hidden fall drainage and custom-fabricated box gutters to maintain the clean architectural lines of the home while ensuring optimal water runoff.

All flashings and penetrations were custom-made onsite to suit the structure’s geometry and ensure maximum weatherproofing. A concealed fixing system was used to enhance visual appeal and protect fasteners from corrosion, further extending the lifespan of the roof.

Results

The finished result is a strikingly modern flat roof that complements the home’s contemporary design while offering superior performance in coastal conditions.
